This is the week we’ve been preparing for on so many levels. This is the week of the feast of GOD WITH US! This is the feast of the birthday of the Savior. I’m certain that with the crowds that so often gather for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning I may not see you, but do wish you the blessings and peace of the Christ Child and the Holy Family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers as I celebrate our first Christmas Masses together.

I know that when you come to church this Christmas we will all have to be patient, cooperative and hospitable as we try to make room for His brothers and sisters squeezing in our churches for His birthday celebration. I’m sure He didn’t forget the story of His birth and how no one made room for His mother and father that first Christmas. Keep your personal and family social schedules open enough to make Christmas eve or morning Mass the focus of your celebration and not just something to “get out of the way” so we can get to something else more important. This is HIS day and HIS feast. It is CHRIST’S MASS.

THANKS to all of those who have been busy preparing for Christmas in our communities. THANKS to the cleaners and decorators. THANKS to our ministers of music, the choir members and musicians. THANKS to the various liturgical ministers who are called on for extra duties for this feast. THANKS for all the goodwill extended to the retired religious, the parish, the needy in our neighborhoods, the metropolitan area, the special needs religious education students, the men and women in the military, the nursing and assisted living centers with gifts, visits, cards and carols. Closer to home, remember to THANK those who planned and prepared your family celebrations. We often take their time, love and service for granted.
